Ok that post REALLY pisses me off.

Don’t get all angry at store employees for asking/saying things.

Wanna know why? IT’S FUCKING REQUIRED.

We’re REQUIRED to (or at least my store as well as most grocery stores)

• GREET THE CUSTOMER
• ASK IF THEY FOUND EVERYTHING OK
• MAKE THE CONVERSATION UNIQUE
• AND OFFER HELP OUT

As a courtesy clerk at safeway, I’m REQUIRED to say hello, ask how you’re doing, make the conversation unique (comment on how good xyz food is, guess what you’re making based on the purchase etc) ask if you want your shitty fucking milk in a bag, and offer help out.

It’s 50 fucking questions, I know. But it was part of my 7 hours of training, and it’s required. No we can’t just not do it, because if we skip it during a secret shop (where someone comes in acting like a regular customer and evaluates our performance and store based on certain standards) we can get FIRED.

Even when I’m sweeping the isles, I have to ask customers if they need help finding everything.

I’ve gotten YELLED AT SO MANY FUCKING TIMES because of this for being “annoying”. They say “If I wanted help I’d fucking ask” or “You’re so annoying don’t fucking talk to me.” DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH THAT MAKES US FEEL LIKE SHIT? THAT PEOPLE ARE YELLING AT US FOR SOMETHING WE’RE REQUIRED TO DO?

So next time, when you get annoyed by the 50 fucking questions or the comments the cashiers make, just laugh and go along with it. We’re not doing it because we’re interested and friendly (okay maybe sometimes but still), we’re doing it because we have to. Don’t be that asshole customer that makes us all feel like shit by being rude.
