Hi. I’m not American, but as someone living in Northwestern Europe I hear a bit about the political ongoings in the US, as they affect even our corner of the world. This means that, frankly, I have absolutely no idea why anyone not superrich or religiously fundamentalist would ever vote for the Republicans. I sometimes even try to withhold the secular and “socialist” (equal welfare) values I was raised with while pondering, but I simply can’t see the appeal. Could you please try to explain this?

No, I can’t explain it, because I don’t understand either. It has a lot to do with racism and hating poor people and believing propaganda from right-wing media outlets. But in practice, I don’t know why anyone would vote against their own interests.
